Molí den Fraret restoration, Manacor 2008
The restoration of the den Fraret flour mill was carried out in a couple of phases: first the Mallorca Council restored the tower, the central tidal staircase and installed the antennas. Later, Manacor City Council commissioned us to restore the facades in a first phase and restore the interior and adapt the square and surrounding streets in a second phase. At all times, an attempt was made to use traditional materials similar to the originals, such as mares and lime mortars, both for the joints of the stone wall and the aforementioned interior and exterior. Bathrooms were built inside the mill and an elevator was added outside to guarantee accessibility to the upper floor. This was lined with corten steel plate, thinking that it would be the best image for an element with a desire for respect and contemporaneity. The mill currently houses the ethnological section of the Manacor History Museum and the headquarters of the Tramuntana Residents Association. In terms of the square and streets, wheeled access was reduced, significantly increasing the pedestrian area, a children’s play area was added, native trees were planted and exterior lighting was provided at the base of the mill and the tower
