PREFABRICATED HOUSING IN WOOD, IN ALGAIDA
Ground floor and first floor apartment attached to an existing house that has been restored. With a traditional construction image of the Mallorcan countryside, it integrates perfectly with the environment and the existing building. With large and flexible spaces, and very efficient facilities, the degree of comfort achieved is equivalent to passivhaus standards, although it is not certified.
With the intention from the beginning to build a home with sustainable materials and almost zero consumption, the home has been built with a prefabricated system of light-frame type wooden walls and slabs. The insulation is made of wood fiber and the windows are also made of wood, with double-chamber glass. The structure and envelope were made in the workshop in one more, and were assembled on site in one week. In total about 6 months of construction for a house of about 230 m2.
The house has a double flow ventilation system with heat recovery. The only source of air conditioning is a wood-burning fireplace. In both summer and winter, the house’s large amount of insulation and ventilation with dehumidification allow optimal interior conditions to be maintained with minimal consumption. This fact, combined with an installation of photovoltaic solar panels, results in a building that produces more energy than it consumes.
